The Shortest Day

Updated: Aug 4

As we come to the winter solstice, honey bees start looking toward spring. From here out, daylight increases and bees start to raise brood to have new young bees ready to collect pollen and nectar that is bountiful in spring.

For us at Broken River Apiaries, we are preparing for almond pollination- a process that started back in February.

Like a beautiful song on your morning alarm, gently pulling you out of sleep- we begin ever so carefully stimulating bees by feeding a bit of sugar and highly nutritious pollen substitutes full of protein, amino acids, fats, and vitamins.
